Evening Status

Why yes, I am having an immune system response to the flu shot. And to the tetanus booster. And having blood drawn + painkillers has made me a bit lightheaded. And I've been staring at the computer screen doing data entry for a day job project all evening.

On the other hand, looking at the snow outside, I'm quite happy I'm working from home tomorrow.

Christmas tree to the rescue!

Friday, the day job handed me an odd little project that's effectively due Monday evening. It's finding emails in a database that are listed in a spreadsheet I was given, and marking them. Except I can't actually look at any of the documents. I can run searches for different word combinations, but I can't check the results. Oh, and the spreadsheet doesn't actually have email subject lines, just a 'description'. And it's an online database and I have to do multiple searches and filters and things to approximate a reasonable result set. I have worked all weekend and will be working super-late tomorrow in hopes of finishing this. And I am becoming distinctly irritated by people who leave the subject lines of their emails blank.

But!

I took a bit of time in the afternoon to get a Christmas tree! (The annual getting-a-Christmas-tree fight had already been settled.) So now I have a lovely tree settling in my living room, after much kerfuffle getting it screwed into the stand in a stable fashion.

So happy.

Squirrels Sheltering From the Cold

  • The rain has turned to sleety snow. I wonder if I'll have to go to the dayjob today?

Edited to Note: No, I did not have to go into work. On the one hand, win! Staying home, working on writing. On the other hand, lost 3 days because scanners didn't get the project ready. The coding deadline hasn't changed. Grump. Grump grump. On the third hand, I don't have to work on dayjob projects this weekend, so yay!

Sumo Party!

  • Oct. 19th, 2009 at 1:30 PM

Thanks to everybody who came out to the Sumo Party--I think it went quite well this year. And I actually got to see most of it, since for once I prepped most of the sumo soup chopped ingredients beforehand. Though I showed up late (3:00 PM) for my own party since I had a baby shower to attend first. Fu Manchu was quite the star of the party, with people making special kitten-viewing expeditions. He was very cuddly and sleepy the next day; I think all his feist got used up Saturday. Phil and I had kimono robes, and I managed to tie my obi, sort of. There were some kick-ass sumo matches in this year's natsu basho! We had a pretty good turnout, maybe a couple dozen people, though I forgot to count at peak. Almost all the sumo soup was consumed, which is a first. There were rice cakes and Asian beer and sake and an assortment of pickled things and sumo wrestler eclairs and giant pocky and durian candy and jelly cups in giant animal- and human-shaped tubs. Andre and his wife won for "most interesting food" by bringing pickled eggplant, daikon radish, oniony things, and cucumber/eggplant mix. [info]bitwise and [info]tesla_aldrich won best dressed for a lovely mandarin-collar blue sheath dress and a matching wrap shirt (not respectively). We watched 10 days worth of sumo matches. The last people left at 5:55 AM, when I woke up and realized that there were still people here and proceeded to kick them out!

The party went well, the cleanup was not too bad, but I'm rather annoyed that my dishwasher chose the very next morning to stop working! Again.

Plumbing Problems.

Ugh. And now our bathroom sink has decided to stop draining. At all. Drain cleaner, drain snake, and removing all accessible piping has not fixed it. This means it's plumber time, and--geez, house, could you cut us a break here? Your budget is already blown!

  • Then Homeland Security stops by to investigate the guy across the street.
  • Things are hurtling off the roof. The cats are freaked out, and I'm not sure I can leave the house without risk of head trauma.
  • If I'm lucky enough to finish projects early today, I'm escaping to a coffee shop. Fingers crossed!*

Lost Day

  • Sep. 20th, 2009 at 9:02 PM
alas
Gack. Today has been filled with too much sleeping, and too much escapist-yet-unsatisfying reading, and too much failing to struggle against the butIdontwanna that gets stronger and stronger the longer that I've been stressed or dealing with too many things at once. The "I am ravenously hungry but I don't want to eat" and "there are things I want to be done but I really don't want to do them" and "I want to feel better but don't know how."

There were things I should have wish I had gotten done today. But I have these days now and again, and as long as it stays at only a day, that'll be fine. And it could have been much worse--I did shower and get dressed and eat, which are the minimal self-maintaining requirements.

Although I do not like the post-too-much-sleeping headaches.
