- 14:24 4th of July party at our place! Details: cloudscudding.livejournal.com/645845.htm
l - 14:28 Wore shorts today. Suspect I may have blinded several drivers with the sheer whiteness of my legs as I biked past.
- 14:35 I got my Something in the mail. It was a waterproof radio. Not something I need, but not crap either. www.somethingstore.com/
- 16:44 To my writerly subconscious, Hostile boarding of a spaceship? Really? Why are you foreshadowing this?

"Tree of Light" Writing Log
Words: 273
Total words: 5,211
Overused word: tunnels
Gratuitous language: Hindi
Type of scene: Transit & transition. I need to hurry past these scenes. Though I guess I'm getting useful other info worked in.
Challenge(s): Typing the first word. Once I did that, it was smooth going!
Which line is it anyways? She shook her head. "The tunnels have no numbers or names. Follow a number and you might end up with the sleepers, in an airlock, or in somebody else's kitchen. No way to tell."
Notes: Excuse me, subconscious. Hostile boarders? What? Are you planning on putting pirates into this story? They'd have to try it on a docking station--there's some debate about whether two ships in an Alcubierre tunnel would be able to interact at all, or at least in a less than freakishly disastrous way.
Other writingy stuff:
* Mailed off "The Haunts of Hill Crossing"
* Transferred over my reading lists from 4th Street from that post to my actual reading list.
* Followed up on people from 4th Street (which, lacking context, sounds kinda creepy).
* Posted writing log.

penthius freewriting, got to hear from a character that I *really* want to write more of.
Today in the car, Phil said I should be churning out a short story every two weeks. I explained I'd accidentally started another novel. He repeated himself. Part of me thinks he's right. Some 4,000 word suckers.

Original recipe from The Complete Guide to Country Cooking. I've made the original of this recipe a bazillion times. This is just as good with what it originally called for--chicken, onions, garlic, and no kohlrabi. From the CSA: garlic scapes, purple scallions, kohlrabi (root and leaves), and fresh thyme from the planted herb pack.

Today I had my six month follow-up visit with the surgeon. He twisted and tweaked and poked and pronounced it proceeding per plan (but less alliteratively). The next three months are the ramp-up phase, where at the end of them I can do whatever I want. As long as I do it with a knee brace. That's right. I'm getting my very own custom-fitted knee brace that I'm supposed to use whenever I'm doing high impact anything (AKA martial arts) for the next year-and-three-months.
The ramp-up plan:
Month 1 - Start doing martial arts training at home. 1/4-1/2 speed, no jumping kicks. Use a jump-rope. Bike as much as I can. Get a gym membership and try building strength back up, esp. upper-body (damn girly arms).
Month 2 - Go back to the dojang. 1/2 speed. No sparring or kicking bags. Only easy jump kicks (no jump spin kicks or jump split kicks [that would be the one I tore apart my ACL with]).
Month 3 - Full speed. Still no sparring, bagwork, jump splits, or right jump spins.
Month 4 - Approved for everything!
I wonder how difficult wearing a brace will make things. A hinged brace, yet, not just a soft sleeve like a lot of people wear.
- 10:24 My knee always hurts after Dr's follow-up visits. He twists and pulls and digs his thumb *right into the scar*. Owww.
- 12:02 Poll: What's the nastiest food-taste combination you can think of? Pondering artificial cherry-onion-fish.
- 13:21 The cats are on the bed. They look very comfortable.... No! Must. Resist. Food. Crash.
- 14:19 Scheduled Dr. visit 6 months in advance. Oddly, I had my pick of times!
- 15:21 May have to watch "I Survived A Japanese Game Show" (ABC, 8PM). Taking US reality show contestants and surprise! switch to Japan? Hilarious!
- 18:08 Computer is refusing to recognize my Sansa MP3 player => I can't sync to it. Which is pissing me off *beyond description*. It worked ...
- 18:32 Now MP3 player is working. I think. *But I don't know why!*
- 21:19 Overall a good day, but non-working technology pisses on the whole parade. I *hatehatehate* when things won't work right.
